This is the summary for Head, Heart & Hand Studio's
Art of the Beast summer art camp.
DEER SKULL - Line/Texture Drawing
Studying the skeletal and musculatory structures of animals is the best way to learn to draw animals.  For instance,
eyeballs are located in holes, therefore the eye is often shadowed.  Here, students observed a deer
skull and used marker to indicate the different textures found on its antlers and teeth.
SHADING LESSON
Students used the structure of a bat's wing to practice shading.
DEER SKULL REVISITED
Students used the shading skills they learned from
the bat wing lesson and applied it to the deer skull.
WATERCOLOR COLLAGE DRAGONS
It was time to lighten things up by doing a bit of watercolor painting.  Students explored different
watercolor techniques as they first created an environment, and then added a collaged dragon.
ANIMAL SCULPTURES
After all that practice drawing and painting animals, it
was time to make a 3-dimensional animal.
MIXED BREED DRAWING
There was time for one more lesson.  Students used Prismacolor pencils on Mi
Tientes paper to mix three different animals to create a new breed.
