THE ART OF HARRY POTTER
July 16-20
THE MIRROR OF ERISED - If you've
read Harry Potter books, you will know
that in the first book a special mirror was
introduced.  If you looked into this
mirror you'd see your deepest desires.
Students expressed their deepest desires
with Prismacolor pencils on Mi Teintes
paper, then made frames using paper
mosaic techniques.
This summer art
camp took place in
the week leading up
to the release of the
7th Harry Potter Book.

TURNING TEACUPS INTO ANIMALS - This is a favorite lessonof mine!  Using Meret Oppenheim's
famous teacup covered in fur as inspiration, students turned teacups into animals by learning how to
draw fur, scales and feathers.  This was a bit tricky - they needed to make their cups appear to be
covered in animal hide and also shade the cup to make it look three-dimensional as well.
In the spirit of the TriWizard Tournaments from the fourth Harry Potter book, students painted an underwater
scene.  After discussing watercolor techniques and aerial perspective, students worked from their imaginations.
The students' enthusiasm and
excitement for the release of the 7th
book really made this a fun camp!
