Wild Animal Kingdoms -
Younger students tend to have
difficulty with the concept of
overlapping images.  This
lesson was good practice for
overlapping objects.  We
looked at paintings by the
artist Henri Rousseau and
discussed how he overlapped
foliage to show depth.
Students were then instructed
to create their own jungle-like
environments and animals
using watercolor paints.
WOVEN ANIMALS -
We looked at African
symbolism in Adire
Eleko cloths for
inspiration for
these woven
animals.
It was time for clay!  Students learned to use armatures to sculpt clay animals.
When their animals were dry, they painted them using acrylic paints.  They
used Prismacolor pencils to draw a background for their animals.  This was a
good lesson that involved a variety of materials and problem-solving skills.
We had a lot of fun
focusing on animals
in this summer camp!
